Frequently Asked Questions about Distance Learning

Q. I haven't studied for ages. Is this a problem - can I still do these courses?

A. HHT produces courses that are able to be achieved even by those who might be "out of the study loop." Even if it's been years and years! We do this through close contact with your tutor, personalised coaching, and the use of everyday language, diagrams, cartoons and pictures.

Q. This material is completely new to me - I've got no idea about anatomy, communication theory or interpersonal skills!

A. You soon will. The terms and ideas of anything new can seem a bit strange at first. But the courses take a practical, common-sense approach. We make sure that you stay interested, and have some laughs, so that you stay motivated.

Q. How long do the courses take to do?

A. This is a tricky one, and varies enormously from person to person. NZQA rates the distance learning courses at 250 hours for the Interpersonal Skills Course and 500 hours for the Anatomy and Physiology Course, but this will obviously depend on lots of factors;
· how much prior knowledge you have,
· how motivated you are,
· whether you have any other deadlines,
· your lifestyle, kids, work and so on!

Q. Who recognises the courses?

A. HHT Ltd is an NZQA-registered Private Training Establishment, which guarantees that the standards of administration, delivery, accountability and course quality must be very high.

These courses exceed the requirements of the New Zealand Charter of Health Practitioners, the "umbrella" organization of many alternative health provider training groups in New Zealand.

Training organisations whose students and practitioners have found the courses invaluable are Bowtech, Holistic Pulsing, Massage Therapy, Shiatsu, Reflexology, Flower Essences and spiritual healers.

Q. Do I need to buy extra resources?

A. No. HHT Ltd will provide any further resources you need to complete the course.

Q. What happens if I get "stuck"?

A. You can contact the tutor by phone, email, or through a "feedback" section on assignments. Additional resources can be emailed or posted.

Q. Do I have to travel to a centre to sit the exam?

A. No. You find someone in your community to supervise you according to the criteria specified, who meets the requirements, and you can sit the exam at home.

Q. Does the company have an independent Complaints authority?

A. Yes. The Complaints Authority is an experienced mediator and facilitator. All complaints in the first instance should come to the company. If you would like to see the Complaints and/or disciplinary policies, please request these.
