   Assessment for Distance Learning Courses

Each course has the same assessment structure.

When you register, you receive an Introductory Module, with Module One Booklet, Assignment and Copyright contract.

Each Assignment is worth 100 marks. The total is factored to give 40% of your final result.

As you receive each Module in the post, you complete the assignment in your own time. There are no deadlines for the return of assignments. Course work is self-paced.

All the information you need to complete Assignments is in the Module booklets, but you are welcome to use any additional resources you like.

You are also welcome to contact the tutor at any time to ask for assistance.

Assignments use lots of different assessment techniques, from multi-choice to "observation" methods.

You can't "fail" an assignment. If you don't reach a 75% benchmark, we work together until you do.

Two Module booklets and assignments will be sent at a time, so that you receive regular feedback. (If you're going on holiday and want to spend your time working on assignments, of course you can have three! Just let us know.)

The final examination is a three-hour paper (plus 10 minutes reading time.) If you are an especially slow reader or have a relevant medical condition, or if English is yourr second language, you can apply for additional time to complete the paper.

The Exam is "open book" so you can take resources into the exam, but you may not ask anyone else to help you at the time.

Your exam is independently supervised in an arrangement that you contract with an appropriate person.

Your supervisor must be;

Independent of you (not your Mum, or anyone else who could be said to have an investment in the outcome.)
Over 18 years old.
Not related to you.
Have mana in the community.
Subscribe to a Code of Ethics.

JP's, any health professional, social worker, accountant, or lawyer is OK. Your Citizens Advice Bureau may be able to recommend appropriate people. Secondary schools usually have lists of people who invigilate (oversee) exams, and they may provide you with names.

Your supervisor signs a statutory declaration, receives the exam paper from HHT Ltd and holds it, sealed, until the contracted time of the exam. The supervisor sits with you as you do the paper, then returns it to us for marking.

The exams are not "hard" but they are Looooonnnggg!!! so that we can tell if you've spent time looking everything up!

A 75% + pass in the exam is factored to 60%, and added to your mark out of 40% for Assignments. If the total is 75%+, you receive your Professional NZQA Certificate of Achievement. A pass from 85 - 95% is Distinction. Over 95% is Honours. You can choose whether or not to have your mark recorded on your certificate.

If you fail to reach the benchmark, you are able to re-assess as many times as you like. There is a $20.00 fee per re-sit.
